Temporary Election Worker Specialist
Vote-By-Mail Front Office
The Registrar of Voters Vote-By-Mail (Front Office) Section is seeking positive, enthusiastic, and adaptable people to conduct election related work in a fast-paced, volume-driven environment for the upcoming June 2, 2026, Gubernatorial Primary Election.
This recruitment is open continuously and can close at any time once the business needs of the department have been met.
Schedule:
- Day Shift Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday – Friday)
- Election Day Hours: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Work schedules may include weekends and extended hours depending on voter volume.
General Skills/ Abilities:
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral/written instructions and established policies and procedures
- General clerical tasks (sorting, filing, counting, inserting, and labeling)
- Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
- Basic computer skills (ability to do data entry, retrieve data, and assist with emailing of voters), if required
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly
- General safety practices with emphasis on proper and safe lifting techniques
- Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule that may vary from day to day
- Ability to cross-train in multiple processes, as needed
- Treat co-workers, other County employees, representatives of outside agencies and members of the public with courtesy and respect.
Task Specific Skills/ Abilities:
- Use a computer terminal to retrieve/enter data in voter database
- Activate access cards for voting equipment using provided software and devices
- Basic use of phones, copy machines, microfiche reader/printer or other modern office equipment
- Answer voter questions about mail voting and in-person voting, including the two weekends before and Election Day, over the phone, via email, and in person
- Perform clerical tasks such as sorting, counting, inserting, labeling, and filing
- Provide voters guidance by directing them to designated areas based on their need
- Check-in and escort members of the public for the observation process
- May assist in supplies or equipment inventories, if needed
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Performing manual tasks while sitting, standing, or walking for the duration of the work period
- Performing repetitive tasks, including computer data entry and verification of VBM applications
- Use of electronic election equipment/applications (i.e. tablet, laptop, ballot marking device, printers)
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the office by keeping workstations and common areas clean by using cleaning tools or supplies, as well as, taking periodic breaks and lunches away from workstations
- Assist in maintaining the security of the office and surrounding area by locking doors or cabinets and limiting access to authorized employees or personnel
- Deescalating and/or resolving difficult situations in a positive manner
- Perform other duties as needed and work a flexible schedule that will include the two weekends prior to Election Day

Essential Physical Requirements:
- Continuous upward and downward flexion of the neck
- Repetitive use of the hands in data entry and data retrieval
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to 10-12 hours per day)
- Ability to be on her/his/their feet for the entire work shift, if needed
- Continual: walking, standing, bending, and twisting of the neck, bending, and twisting of waist, simple grasping, reaching above and below shoulder level, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
Additional Requirements:
- Must wear employee badge and access card
- Must follow all health and safety protocols
- Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner
- May be required to work more than eight hours per day (plus weekend work) during peak periods, especially the two weekends before Election Day.
