Temporary Election Worker Specialist

The Registrar of Voters Office conducts elections for San Diego County. Major elections for President, State Offices, School Boards, Special Districts, and Cities are held in even years. Some special elections are held in odd years.

Primary responsibilities include recruiting and surveying vote centers required for the election. Each location will be evaluated to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. In addition, will assist with various clerical duties as needed.

This recruitment is open continuously and can close at any time once the business needs of the department have been met. Please apply immediately.

Schedule:

  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday - Friday
  • May include weekends and extended hours

General Skills/ Abilities:

  • Basic principles and methods used in making assessments as to the usability of a vote center
  • Knowing how to use and read various measuring and survey tools (measuring tape, ruler, light circuit tester, prong outlet adapter, combination square, digital level, door pressure gauge, wheel tape for measuring)
  • General knowledge of Americans with Disability Act (ADA) guidelines as it relates to vote centers
  • Procedures and methods used to determine if a vote center meets ADA guidelines.
  • Physically canvass (door-to-door) public facilities and businesses to recruit and survey as vote centers
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Complete ADA survey and review information for completeness and accuracy
  • Draw layout of the vote center (voting room, parking, path of travel, etc.)
  • Able to drive a county vehicle
  • Telephone/Customer Service Skills 
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to handle difficult customers
  • Attention to detail
  • Perform repetitive tasks
  • Maintain excellent rapport with co-workers, other County employees, representatives of outside agencies and members of the public
  • Basic use of office equipment
  • Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to perform repetitive movements
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must wear employee badge and access card.
  • Must wear the County of San Diego Registrar of Voters safety vest when working in the field. 
  • Must follow all health and safety protocols
  • Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner
