Airport Legislative Affairs Coordinator

Examples of Duties

Under administrative direction, is responsible for planning and adminstering a specific project or program for a City department. Serves as the administrative supervisor on projects or programs. Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews activities of subordinate personnel. Monitors the project or program's operating budget and assists in the annual preparation of same. Designs, implements, and monitors procedures utilized in program evaluation. Develops and secures commitments from other City departments and agencies to provide services to program participants. Provides technical assistance or reviews program policies and procedures. Maintains current information and oversees the preparation of project status reports. Prepares financial and narrative reports and program applications. Communicates project/program status and information to municipal officials and/or public and private entities. May supervise employees assigned to the respective project. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Sciences, or closely related field preferred. Two (2) years of full-time, paid, progressively responsible experience in program administration is required. Must be able to lift and carry thirty (30) pounds. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.

Supplemental Information

Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 10-year fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check and Security Threat Assessment.  
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Three years of experience with the legislative process and/or leading community engagement efforts.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the legislative process and government relations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under administrative direction, cultivates stakeholder, community, and City relationships and partnerships to gain understanding and support of the agendas for the airport system. Develop strategies to ensure local legislative and airport agendas are achieved.

  • Responsibilities:
    • Create a Port Control legislative agenda and meet with elected officials to ensure the departmental agenda is achieved.
    • Coordinate monthly visits with City Council and local representatives to visit CLE to discuss the airport system’s strategic direction.
    • Present the airport system’s strategic agenda to City Leadership, City Council Members and Business Stakeholders to gain approval and move strategic initiatives forward.
    • Educate City Officials on the contract needs of the Department and promote timely passage through the City Committees.
    • Coordinate the Department’s lobbying efforts to ensure the organization’s agenda is achieved.
    • Plan and organize public workshops/community meetings to support Airport initiatives, programs and projects.
    • Reinforces the Airport’s commitment of corporate social responsibility by developing opportunities for Airport employees to collaborate with tenants in serving the community.
    • Works with Airport stakeholders and suburban Mayors for various outreach programs.
    • Coordinates speaking engagements and executes stakeholder surveys.
    • Partners with various departments on citywide initiatives. 
    • Develops section budget and monitors expenditures.
    • Promotes and ensures compliance with occupational health and safety management policies, procedures, and programs to minimize employee accidents and to promote a safe work environment.  Prepare accident and injury reports as necessary.
    • Performs other related duties as required.
