About the Summer Internship Program

The Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of museum work at The Museum of Modern Art. Interns participate in weekly professional development activities designed to increase understanding of the Museum’s various collections, exhibitions, and departments. The Museum hosts approximately 25 interns in various departments across our institution. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement.

MoMA Summer 2026 internships require a commitment of four days per week. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. One must have a minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2026 in order to apply.

Department Projects & Tasks

The intern will support the Communications and Public Affairs team with press, publicity, and general-audience engagement for upcoming MoMA exhibitions and institutional initiatives. Responsibilities will include press research and media list building, tracking coverage and compiling reports, and assisting with press previews, interviews, and public-facing events. The intern will also support general-audience strategy by researching cultural trends, tracking influencers and partners, assisting with outreach to lifestyle and mainstream media, and contributing to post-campaign analysis. Through this work, the intern will gain hands-on experience in museum communications, media relations, and audience development.

Projects will focus on assisting with media research and outreach; supporting events and public programs, tracking coverage; and contributing to post-campaign analysis to evaluate engagement and impact, in anticipation for all Fall 2026 exhibitions, the World Cup, and the United States of America's 250th Anniversary.

Department Skillset Requirements

Candidates with interest or experience in communications or public relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects are essential. The intern should have research and analytical abilities for tracking media coverage and audience trends, familiarity with media outreach and press relations. An interest in arts, culture, and museum communications, along with a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, is also preferred.
