Senior Manager, Public Affairs, U.S. HIV Community Engagement and Advocacy

The Senior Manager, Public Affairs will partner with internal and external stakeholders to co-develop U.S. HIV community engagement and advocacy strategies to support the launch of a new treatment asset. This role collaborates closely with marketing, medical affairs, market access, and government affairs to advance launch priorities, ensuring alignment across the Public Affairs organization. The position reports to the Executive Director, U.S. Advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Support the development and execute of U.S. advocacy strategies for People with HIV (PWH), aligned with Public Affairs and corporate objectives.
  • Collaborate with communications teams to deliver education, awareness, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Contribute insights on emerging trends and innovative approaches to advocacy.
  • Assist in creating tailored advocacy presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Serve as a resource for HIV advocacy expertise and provide strategic input.
  • Promote inclusive strategies that reflect diverse experiences of PWH.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with advocacy partners.
  • Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and trust.
  • Facilitate two-way communication to identify unmet needs and inform planning.
  • Support the community advisory council to gather insights for strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate on Gilead’s presence at advocacy events and campaigns.
  • Contribute to training initiatives that enhance employee understanding of advocacy.

Analytics and Optimization

  • Monitor healthcare policies impacting PWH and share insights with advocacy partners.
  • Support budget and sponsorships management in compliance with company policies.
  • Track communications and engagement metrics with advocacy stakeholders.
  • Assist in leverage AI tools to optimize digital advocacy efforts.

Issue and Crisis Readiness

  • Monitor community feedback for potential risks and escalate issues promptly.
  • Contribute to rapid-response strategies to protect brand reputation.

Launch and Post-launch

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to co-develop Public Affairs strategies across pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases.
  • Collaborate on advocacy efforts to support launch and strengthen reputation.
  • Assit with the creation of launch advocacy plans, including storytelling and partnerships.
  • Support ongoing communications and stakeholder engagement to maintain momentum.
  • Assist in tracking media coverage, sentiment, and stakeholder feedback; report KPIs in coordination with the corporate reputation team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 6+ years of experience in public affairs, community engagement, and communications within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of the HIV therapeutic landscape and patient advocacy.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Experience leveraging patient insights to inform strategy and measure impact.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms for patient engagement and advocacy outreach.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and develop strategic plans.
  • Familiar with issues management and health equity initiatives.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a global or highly matrixed corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, political, and social responsibility landscapes impacting business and reputation.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-impact, patient-centric solutions in a matrixed organization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience, or
  • Master’s Degree and 6+ years of experience

The salary range for this position is: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
