Your new role

Reporting to the Head of Government Relations and Public Policy, the Senior Manager Government Relations and Public Policy plays a critical role in representing AustralianSuper to government, industry and representative bodies.

 

Key duties include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the execution of a government engagement strategy for the Fund.
  • Build awareness of AustralianSuper among government stakeholders, including the Fund’s purpose and related outcomes for Australians. 
  • Expert analysis of parliamentary processes, including Committee processes, as they apply to AustralianSuper, its reputation, and the interests of fund members.
  • Develop and foster a network of contacts with parliamentary stakeholders including Members of Parliament and their staff, as well as departmental staff in relevant portfolio areas.
  • Provide expertise to support the Fund’s external engagement and advocacy work, to promote policy and regulatory settings that are in the best interests of the Fund and members.
  • Develop and maintain policies to ensure proactive consideration of the Fund’s membership of, and involvement with, peak bodies in members’ best financial interests. 
  • Prepare comprehensive, timely and accurate analysis and briefing material on areas of significant public policy (reactive and proactive) for use by Executives and colleagues.
  • Implement strong risk controls on processes, policies and systems to ensure breaches are limited; actively build and promote a team culture of compliance and risk management awareness and appreciation.
  • Expertise in Federal or State Government relations and/or relevant experience working in Federal or state government, or other relevant private sector experience. 
  • Strong networks and experience representing large and significant Australian organisations across the political spectrum, including the cross bench. 
  • High level understanding of public policy frameworks, legislative and policy development processes, including government and Opposition.
  • Expert knowledge of Parliamentary and legislative analysis, including the ability to identify key strategies for political engagement across all levels of Government. 
  • Experience developing advocacy and/or community campaigns, including regulatory reform.
  • Strong influencing skills and experience successfully representing and negotiating on behalf of national organisations including with regulators, politicians, and other policymakers.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
