The internship with the College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Public Affairs team offers hands-on experience in storytelling, social media, and creative production for students interested in communications, media, and design. The intern will work closely with the Public Affairs team and report to the COLA Social Media Coordinator to create engaging, on-brand content for the college’s digital platforms.

The position focuses on developing visual and written content that highlights COLA’s students, faculty, and events, with an emphasis on video production and graphic design. Interns will gain professional experience in creative direction, content strategy, and campus-wide communications.

The internship position is not benefits-eligible but provides a pay of $16/hour for up to 10 hours each week during the Spring 2026 semester. In addition, students may earn academic credit through the internship courses offered by Liberal Arts Career Services.

Purpose

Reporting to the College of Liberal Arts Social Media Coordinator, the Social Media Intern supports the Public Affairs team by producing engaging videos, photos, and graphics that highlight the college’s students, faculty, and initiatives. This role helps strengthen COLA’s storytelling and digital presence through creative visual content across its official platforms.

  • $16/hr for 10 hours a week  

Responsibilities

  • Capture and edit video content featuring students, faculty, and college events.
  • Photograph campus activities and programs.
  • Design on-brand social media graphics using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Write captions and short-form copy for social media posts.
  • Brainstorm creative ideas to increase engagement and visibility.
  • Support live coverage of key events and programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in-person undergraduate or graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin. Candidates must be enrolled full time and be able to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
  • Demonstrated experience with photography, videography, or digital content creation (academic, personal, or professional).
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design and editing tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, follow directions, and work collaboratively within a team environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience producing and editing video content for social media or marketing purposes.
  • Experience creating digital graphics, motion graphics, or multimedia campaigns.
  • Knowledge of social media strategy, analytics, and engagement best practices.
  • Confidence engaging with students, faculty, and staff in creative or interview settings.
  • Strong creative judgment, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for storytelling through visual media.
  • Previous experience working in a communications, marketing, or university-related role.

Salary Range

$16/hr for 10 hours a week  

Working Conditions

  • Typical office conditions. May be required to attend events outside of regular office hours.  

Work Shift

  • Between 8am – 5pm but may be asked to attend events outside of office hours.
