Description


I. Job Summary

The role leads a comprehensive and effective state and local best practice government affairs program to advance and support the Company's overall business plan and state-specific objectives at the area level

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Provide information related to current legislative, regulatory and other government activities to senior staff as appropriate and communicate effectively with appropriate line-of-business managers.
  • Perform legislative advocacy activities including direct lobbying for the weaknesses or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measure, or introduction of legislation more favorable to WM.
  • Represent WM at area fundraising events.
  • Provide support for local area key expansion projects.
  • Evaluate emerging policy issues and the impact on WM. Participate on teams formed to develop the WM response to these policy proposals, and communicate with sales, public sector services, operations, etc.
  • Call upon state agency officials and staff, state legislators, congressional delegation and industry trade associations, periodically to discuss current issues involving the company and the industry.
  • Ensure the company complies with all campaign finance and lobbying/ethics laws.


III. Qualifications 

A. Required Qualifications 
 

  • Bachelor's Degree accredited) in Political Science, Public Affairs/Relations, Business Administration or similar area of study or in lieu of degree,
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience


B. Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of prior work experience in government affairs (in addition to education requirement)

☒ Combination: This job operates in a mix between an office environment and plant/field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.

The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $96,700 - $125,600. This range represents a good faith estimate fort his position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.

Employees will also receive discretionary time off, up to 80 hours of paid sick time per year and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Additionally, the Company has a leave pay policy that provides for up to 4 weeks of paid leave in a rolling 12-month period for qualifying leaves.
