Overview:<\/span><\/b>
Symbiotic Services is seeking an experienced Director of State Government Affairs<\/b> to lead and implement public policy strategies across a multi\-state region in the U.S. The ideal candidate will be proactive, strategic, and skilled at influencing legislative and regulatory environments to support business objectives. This role involves high\-level interaction with legislators, regulators, advocacy groups, and trade associations.<\/span><\/p>

Key Responsibilities:<\/span><\/b>
<\/p>

  • Lead the company’s regional state and local government affairs strategy.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Serve as the primary liaison with elected officials, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to policy developments and emerging legislative issues.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Manage external consultants and ensure alignment with company priorities.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Develop strategic responses to proposed legislation or regulations.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Provide detailed reports and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Build and maintain relationships with local political organizations and advocacy groups.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Represent the company in industry coalitions and trade associations.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Support event planning, budget forecasting, and internal communication efforts.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Define and measure key performance indicators related to government affairs.<\/span>
    <\/li> <\/ul>

    Minimum Qualifications:<\/span><\/b>
    <\/p>

    • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.<\/span>
      <\/li>
    • At least 7 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or public policy.<\/span>
      <\/li>
    • Deep understanding of U.S. state and local legislative\/regulatory processes.<\/span>
      <\/li>
    • Strong skills in strategic planning, public speaking, legislative analysis, and relationship building.<\/span>
      <\/li>
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.<\/span>
      <\/li>
    • Ability to communicate complex issues to varied audiences and manage cross\-functional teams.<\/span>
      <\/li>
    • Willingness to travel domestically up to 30% and attend early morning\/evening events.<\/span>

      Preferred Qualifications:<\/span><\/b>
      <\/p>

      • Master’s degree in a related field.<\/span>
        <\/li>
      • Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., tobacco, alcohol, pharmaceuticals).<\/span>
        <\/li>
      • Background in corporate, legislative, or regulatory settings.<\/span>
        <\/li> <\/ul>

        • Hybrid role with in\-office and remote flexibility.<\/span>
          <\/li>
        • Requires regular use of computer, phone, and occasional travel.<\/span>
          <\/li>
        • Must be comfortable sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.<\/span>
