Join our Government Law and Policy Team as a Director of Legislative Affairs located in our New York City office.

This role will be based in our New York City office, on an in office basis.

Position Summary

The  Director will work with a team of legal and government affairs professionals dedicated to providing first-class service to clients. This individual will be relied upon for thorough, accurate and timely information regarding NYC based legislative, budget and regulatory activities,  that impact our practice and clients. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities and work in an organized, efficient manner as well as to accommodate the irregular hours of the legislature, NYC Government and other deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, and analyze proposed local legislation, resolutions and NYC agency rules. Draft position papers (letters of support or opposition) on legislative and regulatory proposals.

  • Advocate/Lobby legislative and regulatory positions of our clients to NYC Council members, Council staff, the Mayor’s Office and NYC agencies.

  • Assist with Council discretionary applications for Budget, and advocate for client budgetary requests

  • Attend City Council legislative and oversight hearings, and various NYC commission hearings, interface with high level government officials and provide summary notes to clients and members of the GT GLP team

  • Conduct  research on government regulations.

  • Have a clear understanding of local Lobby law rules and regulations. 

  • Assist attorneys with government contracts and procurement issues.

  • Work with clients and assist attorneys with PASSPORT/Vendex and other governmental disclosure requirements.

  • Draft routine correspondence, memoranda.

Qualifications

Skills & Competencies:

  • Provide outstanding client service

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), including solid composition, research and editing skills

  • Have a professional demeanor and presentation, and the ability to effectively interface with all levels of firm personnel, government officials and a variety of external clients

  • Ability to be a proactive self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context.

  • High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload and manage time effectively.

  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines, adapt to a fast-paced high-pressure environment to achieve business goals and objectives

Education and Prior Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • 3-4 years of City government and legislative/lobbying experience

Technology:

  • Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.

The expected pay range for this position is:

$166,000 to $192,000 per year

Salary will be determined based upon education, experience, job related factors permitted by law, internal equity, and market data, including geographic pay differentials in locations where market pay differs from the national average.
