Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced investment professional for the role of Director – Manager Selection at Future Growth Capital (FGC), reporting to the Head of Manager Selection. The Manager Selection function sources, analyses, diligences, negotiates, structures, and monitors investments in funds, mandates and co-investments across the private markets universe, globally.

About Future Growth Capital

Future Growth Capital will support the objectives of the UK's Mansion House Compact, unlocking investment opportunities in private markets for millions of new pension savers to benefit from the diversification and investment return opportunities that unlisted assets can offer. In doing so, FGC aims to deploy an initial £2.5bn as part of a planned £10-20bn deployment over the next 10 years into UK and global private markets, supported by Phoenix Group's plans to invest 5% of its relevant savings products on behalf of its policyholders as well as ongoing fundraising led by both Schroders and Phoenix Group, via its Standard Life subsidiary.

FGC will design and manage UK and Global multi-private asset solutions for UK insurance and pension clients providing exposure to a broader range of innovative companies and investment opportunities for millions of UK pension savers. FGC has launched two Long Term Asset Funds (LTAFs) to date covering a global-ex UK investment universe and a UK-only offering.

In terms of flexible working, Future Growth Capital has a fully flexible policy with no mandated office days, though in practice the team is office-based 4-5 days per week and in person investment due diligence meetings are a key expectation of the role.

What you’ll do

  • Lead investment transactions from end-to-end (research, sourcing, analysis, preparation of investment committee papers, closing coordination) across asset classes including, but not limited to, private equity, venture capital, infrastructure equity, infrastructure debt, real estate debt and private credit. Such transactions can take the form of separately managed accounts (SMAs), primary fund investments, secondaries, and co-investments.
  • Contribute to structuring SMAs that match the needs of FGC’s funds and solutions and are parameterised based on the alpha signals that are evidenced through the selection process.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external legal, tax, ODD and product development advisers to drive commercial outcomes during closing processes, ensuring alignment with the processes and expectations set out by the Head of Manager Selection.
  • Gather and synthesise market intelligence based on independent research, networking and high-quality engagement with private markets managers, contributing to the firm’s relative value framework and actionable investment ideas.
  • Represent the Manager Selection function externally and contribute to business development activities as and when required.
  • Act with integrity, respect and the highest standards of professionalism in line with FGC’s One Team culture and the requirements of a regulated business with fiduciary responsibility for client assets.
  • Continue to develop leadership skills by supporting the Head of Manager Selection with training and development of early career colleagues on the Manager Selection team.

  • Proven track record of investment experience gained at a reputable sell-side or buy-side institution with experience of direct risk-taking highly desired. Advisory backgrounds will not be considered.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in 1-2 private market asset classes along with an active network of manager and intermediary relationships.
  • Experience of leading transactions in private market asset classes from end to end. Secondaries and co-investment transaction experiences are highly regarded.
